Leonardo Innovation Labs are technology incubators intended to support the Group in long-term research and development of the most innovative technologies, particularly digital technologies, and cross-disciplinary skills pertinent to all the company's business areas. The laboratories focus on ten fields of research: Artificial Intelligence, Deep Digital Technologies, Quantum Computing, Digital Twins, Quantum Technologies, Optronics, Materials, Robotics, Autonomous Systems, Advanced Power & Energy Systems.
These facilities, some of which were created in collaboration with industrial partners and global leaders in research in their respective areas of expertise, are integrated into a number of Leonardo's industrial sites so that they can also facilitate technology transfer and maximise the benefits for the territories served, consolidating collaboration with local institutions.
Leonardo Innovation Labs also nurture a continuous flow of talent and ensure flexibility and renewal of professional skills and competences: Leonardo's researchers of international origin, included in the Labs network, work together with experts and researchers from within the Group's business areas.
Leonardo Innovation Labs are based on an integrated approach to innovation in which all areas of technological research are interconnected, interacting with each other to manage the multi-disciplinary nature of the Group's areas of application.
The core architecture behind these capabilities is the davinci-1 supercomputer, with its computing and storage capabilities leveraged by AI, Big Data, HPC and Cloud technologies, ensuring a digital continuum and accelerating the technological transformation towards the digitisation of industry.
