Quantum technologies are growing rapidly across the globe and have a wide range of applications including in the aeronautical, space, and defence industries. This research area is committed to developing specific programmes to enhance advanced electronics and sensing capabilities, and to develop proprietary quantum computing technologies.
In particular, it focuses on studying and researching:
- New solutions for quantum fibre optic links in the ground segment of a quantum communications infrastructure, and for quantum links in free space for the space segment of a future quantum communications infrastructure
- Quantum imaging to dramatically improve the detection of objects in difficult conditions, such as turbulence, noisy environments and where obstacles are present
- Potential quantum computing applications using real or simulated quantum computers
- Quantum computer applications in training and implementing neural networks (quantum machine learning)
