Leonardo has expressed its commitment to the city of Genoa, which was severely affected by the collapse of the Morandi Bridge on August 14th, and outlined the concrete steps it is taking to support employees and the region. This morning, Leonardo managing director Alessandro Profumo held a series of meetings including with Giovanni Toti, President of the Liguria Region, Marco Bucci, Mayor of Genoa, representatives of the Genoese Church and company management as well as the wider employee population. The meetings provided an opportunity to highlight actions that will be taken by Leonardo, details of which have already been shared with trade unions, showing how the company is responding promptly to the concerns of workers and embarking on business initiatives that will benefit Genoa and the region of Liguria.

“Leonardo, which has a long and successful history in the city of Genoa, is taking tangible action in response to the emergency that has struck the Ligurian capital. This includes measures to take the pressure off of employees based on-site as well as direct action in support of the local community. We are also providing technological support for the monitoring and surveillance of affected areas” said Alessandro Profumo.

Following a meeting with management and trade union representatives, the Leonardo CEO spoke directly to the approximately 1,770 employees based at Genoa (across Liguria, the company employs a total of 2,760 staff). In addition to expressing a message of solidarity, CEO Profumo outlined the measures designed to limit any hardships suffered by workers due to the emergency and re-confirmed Leonardo’s commitment to the further development of the region.

Measures in support of employees include the extension of the daily flex-time window for all workers, regardless of seniority, and changes to start times. The company has also extended smart-working policies to cover employees who live in municipalities categorised as being affected by medium or high levels of hardship.

The collapse of the Morandi Bridge has not directly affected Leonardo’s facilities as the company in Genoa is located outside of the red zone. However, the emergency is creating serious problems across Genoa’s road system, lengthening journey times to and from the workplace.

Leonardo is monitoring the situation and has committed to assessing further measures if necessary, should the state of emergency be extended or mobility conditions in Genoa change.
