Global Compact, this is the name of the United Nations corporate sustainability initiative that encourages companies around the world to adopt sustainable policies, respecting models of development that generates value for the community, making public the results of the actions taken. Leonardo has been part of it since 2018, along with more than 15,000 companies around the world and, among them, 400 Italian companies. In 2021, for its commitment to the pact's sustainable policy, Leonardo was named a Global Compact LEAD company for the second year in a row.
The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development with its 17 Goals (so-called "Sustainable Development Goals-SDGs") is a key pillar of Leonardo's Sustainability Plan. More than half of Leonardo's investments are directed to projects that impact on the achievement of the SDGs. CO2 emissions have already been cut by 23% compared to 2019 and now work is underway on the more ambitious goal of a 40% reduction by 2030. A commitment to sustainability that goes beyond the company and extends to the 4,000 Italian SMEs that are part of its supply chain.
Decarbonization, technological innovation, inclusion of women in STEM paths, and scientific citizenship are among the topics discussed in the podcast episode.
The episode of the Podcast of the Italian Mission to the United Nations, "Voices from the Glass Palace", with Renata Mele, Sustainability Senior Vice President at Leonardo, is included in the section "Committed Enterprises" and is part of a campaign to promote the UN - and share good practices - of Italian companies devoted to sustainable innovation.
