Leonardo's digital innovation in the new issue of POLARIS Innovation Journal

17 March 2025

The 52nd issue of POLARIS Innovation Journal is online, dedicated to the digital transformation that is affecting all areas of the company, from supply chain to design, from modeling to production. This growing level of digitalisation requires continuous investments in scouting and training new talents, engaged both in research on frontier technologies, such as AI, cloud, digital twin, high performance computing, and in enabling innovative services focused on big data and high levels of analysis and integrability of information.

Issue 52 of POLARIS Innovation Journal is dedicated to the role that technological innovation plays in Leonardo’s transition towards its “digital future”. Digitalisation, in fact, will play an increasingly crucial role in the transformation of industrial processes, as well as of the products and services provided: this is one of the cornerstones of the Industrial Plan that aims to consolidate Leonardo in a cross-divisional environment, increasingly integrating the real dimension with the digital one in the “digital continuum”.

The new issue of POLARIS Innovation Journal offers a broad overview of examples, from which to observe the digital development perspective in all the sectors in which Leonardo operates: air, land, sea, cyber and Space. The opening is dedicated to the Blue and Green transition highlighting, in particular, how digital transformation can support and enable sustainability.

In the following articles, a detailed analysis is dedicated to all aspects of Leonardo's "Digital first" path and how it is contributing to building the future of national security. Artificial intelligence, synthetic environments, cloud-based platforms, digital twins, multidisciplinary numerical simulation of hypersonic flows, the most recent model-based system engineering (MBSE) approaches : these are just some of the aspects that are examined in detail in the various articles and find their main enabler in the High Performance Computer davinci-1, an integrated supercomputing and cloud computing platform, which combines flexibility and computing power and is a powerful accelerator towards the digitalisation of industry.
