The New York Times dedicates an in-depth analysis to the European Defence industry and the investments in the sector that are expected by virtue of recent geopolitical changes. Leonardo, highlights the article published online, is at the centre of this process, thanks to the focus on research and development in high technologies and alliances with large international players.

Leonardo protagonist in the global Defence sector, thanks to high technology and international alliances. The New York Times’ in-depth analysis, written by Lara Jakes and Bernhard Warner, starts from the Leonardo’s plant in Turin, from which two new Eurofighter have just taken off for Kuwait. A country that represents Leonardo's largest export customer within the Eurofighter consortium in which it participates with English, German and Spanish partners.

The increase in investments in the European Defence sector - the article continues - marks a potential growth in the global market in which Leonardo can play a key role thanks to both alliances with other international players, such as the German Rheinmetall for land vehicles and the Turkish Baykar in drones, and to its industrial positioning in high technologies.

This is what, according to Roberto Cingolani, CEO and General Manager of Leonardo, has attracted the attention of investors, who are focusing on the European defence industry following recent changes on the international scene. "Europe, suddenly," said Cingolani, "has understood that we have to change."

And at the heart of these changes is not only the Eurofighter, but also the company's commitment on other fronts such as, for example, the GCAP programme (Global Combat Air Programme), the future combat air system, which will operate in the five domains (air, land, sea, space and cyber), developed by Leonardo together with British and Japanese manufacturers.
