Leonardo participates in the International Aerospace Environmental Group (IAEG) comprised of 54 leading Aerospace, Defence and Security (AD&S) companies that together represent more than 70% of the whole industry globally. IAEG recently selected EcoVadis, among the world leaders in sustainability assessments, to conduct Environment, Social and Governance (ESG) performance measurements of the aerospace and defence supply chain.
Leonardo is among the sponsors of this industry initiative, which aims to improve sustainability performance in the AD&S industry and the extended supply chain, comparing them with an industrial standard, shared by major market players. To date, eight have joined the initiative: Airbus, Boeing, CAE, Howmet Aerospace, Leonardo, Raytheon Technologies, Rolls-Royce, and Thales.
Adopting a common industry-wide approach will enable suppliers to complete a single industry-wide assessment that can be shared with multiple clients internationally, instead of having to develop multiple specific assessments. This is a significant benefit in terms of process’ effectiveness and efficiency, compounded by the ability to access the EcoVadis platform on more favourable terms, and to take advantage of the resources it contains to support ESG performance improvement.
EcoVadis is a leading provider of sustainability assessments, evaluating companies' ESG performance through a model set to globally recognised standards such as Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), United Nations Global Compact and ISO 26000, investigating four specific macro areas: environment, labor and human rights, ethics, and sustainable procurement, through 21 indicators and providing companies with a comprehensive scorecard.
Joining the IAEG Sustainability Assessment powered by EcoVadis industry initiative is a further element in support of Leonardo's strategy to raise the sustainability standards of its supply chain implemented, organically, with the launch of the LEAP - Partnership for Sustainability programme.
