Six main sites, around 7,500 direct employees, and an allied industry of over 1,300 local suppliers are just some of the key numbers illustrating Leonardo’s impact in Lombardia (Italy). Two in-depth articles in the Libero newspaper focus on the Varese and Milan sites, the potential of the davinci-1 supercomputer, and innovation in aeronautical training.

In the article “Leonardo’s innovation makes Lombardy hi-tech,” Luigi Merano emphasises the importance for Leonardo of cooperation with the local education system. The aim is to develop new professional skills, enhancing the area’s economic fabric and industrial vocation. The article also presents the potential of the davinci-1 supercomputer and describes the activities of the company’s sites in the provinces of Varese and Milan, points of reference respectively for the aeronautical industry and for Space, radar, and electro-optical technologies.

The article “New Frontiers of Training” focuses on two key elements in aviation training innovation: the digital twin and artificial intelligence. Along with virtual and augmented reality, these technologies are also used for maintenance training, helping to prevent and identify faults and inefficiencies. Giuseppe Pietroniro, Head of Simulation and Training Systems for the Aircraft business area, explains that Live Virtual Constructive technology “integrates simulators and virtual elements with real aircraft for reasons of environmental and economic sustainability, and above all, for training effectiveness.”
