The high-tech heart beating in Leonardo

The davinci-1 supercomputer is the main engine for enhancing Leonardo’s business in the near future, focusing on cybersecurity and Space activities. This is the theme of a special that Il Giornale devotes to the Group’s key technologies, with the potential to transform and innovate the entire production cycle. From design to prototyping, from production to product support and end-user training, the common denominator is an increasingly pervasive digitalisation process.

The article by Sergio Da Riva looks at the davinci-1, one of the world’s most powerful high-performance computers, which Leonardo uses to extract the maximum possible value from big data and transform it into targeted applications and services. The davinci-1 supports all business areas as a technological accelerator of knowledge and industrial digitalisation. It is also an enabler of prototyping activities through the digital twins. The page also includes two pieces focusing on Leonardo’s presence in Lombardia, one of the few territories in the world with the complete capability to develop aeronautical programmes and advanced competencies in Space, security, and Defence.

Leonardo is designing the future of smart training and maintenance through virtual flight simulators in a fully digitised environment and the Diagnostic Services Tower at its site in Sesto Calende (Varese, Italy), known for its longstanding tradition in the flight industry as “the province with wings.” This super-diagnostics centre processes helicopter flight data and produces models for predictive maintenance and product lifecycle management.

The Nerviano (Milan, Italy) site, a world-leading incubator of advanced Space, radar, electro-optical, and security technologies, primarily focuses on exploring the cosmos. Here, for example, the atomic clocks and solar panels for the most challenging international Space missions are created in one of the company’s first sites to have implemented the “Factory of the Future,” a digital transformation model that spans the entire production chain.
