CyberChallenge.IT 2021, the training for the cyber warriors of the future

27 May 2021

The young cyber warriors responded ‘’Yes!’’ to the roll call of the CyberChallenge.IT 2021. Indeed, between 18 and 21 May the workshops organized by Leonardo's Cyber Security division took place within that event dedicated to cybersecurity. Four advanced training sessions, held by Leonardo specialists dealing with the main aspects of IT security: from Cyber Threat Intelligence to code injection techniques, from the description of the essential elements for a Security Operation Center (SOC) to the SCADA systems protection strategy

Organized by the National Interuniversity Consortium for Information Technology (CINI), with Leonardo again in the role of Platinum Sponsor, the CyberChallenge is a strategic program that aims to stimulate interest in information technology, to raise awareness of the professional opportunities offered from training courses on IT security and to put young people in direct contact with companies, identify cyber talents and contribute to their orientation and professional training.

Now in its fifth edition, CyberChallenge.IT 2021 involves multiple actors who contribute to the organization, financing, visibility and success of the initiative including, in addition to the CINI National Cybersecurity Laboratory, also the National Intelligence Section, Ministry of Defense , Ministry of Education, University and Research, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Italian University System and some private companies.

Leonardo's active participation in the Cyber Challenge.IT 2021 - sponsor of the initiative since the second edition held in 2018 - once again testifies to the concrete attention of the company towards the formation and dissemination of a culture of safety among young people, and towards the role they play in our company as a constant stimulus in the search for new ideas and as a fundamental asset for the present and the future.

The promotion of scientific citizenship is indeed an integral part of Leonardo's strategy to strengthen skills and the innovation chain: a commitment to contribute to the objectives of the UN 2030 agenda, in particular to the 4th SDG to provide quality education, fair and inclusive, and learning opportunities for all, and the 9th SDG to promote technological capabilities in industry, encouraging innovation and attracting people and resources to R&D.

The program is intended for the 16-23 age group and the Universities that have joined this year's edition are the Alma Mater Studiorum - University of Bologna, the Polytechnic of Bari, the Sapienza University of Rome, the University of L'Aquila, the University of Catania, the University of Genoa, the University of Naples, the Tuscan Cybersecurity Competence Center, the Luigi Vanvitelli University of Campania and the University Polytechnic of the Marche.
Due to the restrictions to contain the COVID-19 pandemic, the seminars organized by Leonardo were held exclusively in digital mode.

The National Cybersecurity Laboratory has received a mandate from the Cyber Security Nucleus of the Italian Republic to form an Italian Cyberdefender National Team to represent Italy in international competitions.
